Por coincidência, as duas estatuetas são consequência do vídeo de Katy Perry. Das 15 categorias da premiação, dez foram parar nas mãos de mulheres - vale lembrar que duas são específicas para cada gênero: melhor clipe masculino e melhor clipe feminino.
Entre os outros destaques Katy Perry coroou neste domingo, 29, um ano que pode ser considerado perfeito da cerimônia, Britney Spears faturou a categoria de melhor clipe pop por "Till the World Ends" e Adele ficou com três prêmios técnicos. Lady Gaga levou dois astronautas por "Born This Way" - melhor clipe feminino e melhor clipe com mensagem.O evento ainda contou com uma homenagem a Amy Winehouse, morta em julho. Tony Bennett fez um depoimento e Bruno Mars cantou "Valerie", canção do The Zutons que foi regravada por Amy. Britney Spears ganhou o prêmio Michael Jackson das mãos de Lady Gaga em reconhecimento à sua carreira.
